ABOUT ME

Elena Canellas’ research focuses on food safety, particularly on the identification and risk assessment of chemical contaminants in food contact materials. With over 15 years of experience in high-resolution mass spectrometry, she specializes in the structural elucidation of unknown compounds migrating from polymers and packaging. She has authored 57 scientific articles and 3 book chapters, reaching an h-index of 29. She completed her PhD within the European project Migresives (2007–2010). Her career combines academic research with strong knowledge transfer to industry. From 2011 to 2019, she served as Director of the R&D Department at Samtack under the competitive Torres Quevedo program. She has maintained an active collaboration with Waters’ Worldwide R&D Centre for Mass Spectrometry (Manchester) since 2019, working with advanced UPLC-IMS-QTOF technology . Since January 2023, she holds a Ramón y Cajal fellowship, expanding her research lines while maintaining a strong focus on food safety and advanced analytical methodologies.
