Estela Pérez Bondía

My research involves the study of emerging materials intended for food contact, including recycled polyolefins, biopolymers, and reusable packaging, with a particular emphasis on the identification and characterization of intentionally added substances (IAS) and non-intentionally added substances (NIAS). I apply high-resolution analytical techniques to analyse volatile and non-volatile compounds at trace levels, as well as to assess their chemical and sensory impact. Additionally, I work on the development of decontamination strategies for recycled materials and the design of new active packaging based on cellulose nanofibers. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the transition towards more sustainable packaging systems that ensure food safety within the framework of the circular economy.
